Project Summary:

GitFood is an innovative food waste management and donation platform designed to connect restaurants, caterers, and event organizers with NGOs and volunteers. Its goal is to minimize food waste and ensure surplus food reaches people in need.

The app enables donors to post details of leftover food, automatically matches them with nearby receivers, and coordinates volunteer pickups in real-time. It also includes features like AI-powered freshness detection, event-based food estimation, waste analytics dashboards for restaurants, and composting integration for expired food.

GitFood not only promotes sustainability but also brings transparency and efficiency to the food redistribution process — turning potential waste into valuable resources that serve communities.

Things I Did

Conceptualized the core idea of GitFood as a smart platform for food waste management and donation.

  • Designed the complete UI/UX using modern, minimal layouts focused on simplicity and sustainability.

  • Developed the frontend using React / Flutter, integrating real-time map features and responsive design.

  • Implemented the backend using Node.js with Firebase / PostgreSQL for data storage and authentication.

  • Integrated APIs such as Google Maps for live tracking and AI modules for food freshness analysis.

  • Built dashboards for restaurants and NGOs to manage donations, track waste analytics, and view impact metrics.

  • Tested and optimized performance for both mobile and web platforms.

  • Deployed the app to cloud hosting services ensuring scalability and reliability.
